Acoustic Plants

I like the sound of that! I myself think plants might already be acoustic, i.e. in Mr Akiyama's words, "make sounds". And I'm not just talking about the Venus flytrap or Stevie Wonder's wackiness. I mean noise and music at frequencies we can't hear without techno-help. After all, don't they already talk with each other?

Speaking Oranges

You might have noticed a certain predilection, even a fondness, for orange around these parts. So when we at Toniq intend to announce anything publicly, you can be sure we'll do it through this speaker. Or better yet, through a massive chained grid of these, something covering, say, an area the size of Strawberry Fields (which we would rename for the day of course).

Walkman Comes Back With A Splash! (video)

Remember Sony Walkman? Well, they are back and making quite a splash with the NWD-W270,their new waterproof MP3 playing headphones. Go swim, row, or just go sweat it out and don't worry anymore about your headphones.

The earlier version of this headphone had a few glitches that they have now refined. This model is thinner, lighter and the volume is better. I love the design and look forward to hearing the sound quality. This is expected to be released in February in Japan, and hopefully roll-out worldwide in the following months.

VH1+, The New Logo Explained By A Robot (video)

Have you noticed VH1's new logo? Well, here it is...explained by a robot. A bit throwback, a bit nostalgic, a bit of innovation to broaden VH1's reach. What do you think about this?

Oldies But Goodies - Save The Tunes!

Do you know someone that has a library of records and cassettes and no way of playing them on the go? It's time to help them turn that retro-record into an MP3 file they can take anywhere - granted they have modernized with a smartphone or iTunes account in other parts of their lives. Check out these cool machines from Japanese company Novac - it can turn any old vinyl and cassette into a MP3, WAV or WMA file via an USB cord.

Available from Japan at Novac (the site is in Japanese, but try opening the site with Google Chrome and translate the page). They are about $100.

Move Over Jay-Z, Beyoncé Has a New Partner, Pepsi

Pepsi Expands Beyonce Super Bowl Deal Into Full-Blown Partnership

From the Pepsi Super Bowl to now a cool $50 million partnership, Beyoncé has gone beyond the limits with one brand, her brand, Pepsi. Not only is she the face of Pepsi, they will be an active part of Brand Beyoncé - providing marketing support for her new album as well as underwriting Beyoncé's personal creative projects that cross-promote Pepsi for the duration of the partnership..

The partnership has been brewing since her first solo album in 2003.

"The Beyonce partnership is the lead example of how Pepsi is pioneering a new way for brands to engage with musical artists, moving from sponsor to partner," PepsiCo stated about the expanded deal. "This creates a creative and commercial collaboration that serves both artist and brand."

Dylan's "Times Are A-Changin" Played By Old Computer Junk (video)

I don't know if Dylan would approve this rendition by Brother Electronics and their collection of technologies from photocopiers, scanners, fax machines, printers, hard drives, modems that were headed to landfills. It's actually to promote the new Brother Print 3.0. Looks like a labor of Brother-ly tech love to put this together.
